Inspired by her experiences working with artists from Iraq, Kurdistan, Syria and Lebanon, Susan has partnered with Houston-based
Fine Arts Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, to create Remember the River.
The mission of Remember the
River is to support artists in regions of conflict or isolation through performances, education, mentorship and donations
of musical instruments and art supplies.
Through her work with YES Academies in Iraq and Lebanon, Susan has established
connections with individuals and NGOs in the region which help to facilitate her work inspiring, supporting and protecting
artists who are in danger.
Remember the River has facilitated the donations of instruments to musicians in Mosul
after the fall of ISIS and has helped to start music programs in northern Iraq and for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
